In view of the COVID-19 pandemic, all Colleges including arts and science, Polytechnic colleges, and engineering colleges were conducting online classes. Moreover, the exams were also held online. It was earlier announced that owing to COVID-19, the Online Classes will continue until April 2021. However, colleges have reopened for final year UG/PG Students. But still, most of the colleges undergo Online Classes. Concerning this, the Tamil Nadu Government has announced to provide a 2GB free data pack to college students.
On Sunday (10/1/2021), Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami announced that the state government will issue a data package of 2GB per day for the college students to attend online classes. And this will be implemented, through the Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (ELCOT). Similarly, the 2GB free data package was to be distributed to more than 9 lakh students. And the students studying in Government and Government aided colleges, art and science colleges, polytechnic colleges, and private colleges receiving the scholarship will get benefited from this. This Scheme will be applicable for four months from January 2021 to April 2021. Further, he requested students to use it for Online learning.
